Community Art Walks around Sancreed
Saturday 19th June 2021, 10:30am to 3:30pm
Join us on 19th June for a day with two walks starting and ending at the Seeing the Landscape artist exhibition at Sancreed Village Hall, Sancreed. TR20 8QR. An art exhibition with work inspired by a previous visit to Carn Euny will be displayed in the Hall and you will have the opportunity to visit before or after the walk.
Morning walk with archaeoastronomer Carolyn Kennett
A wander through the beautiful Cornish countryside taking in a number of ancient sites along the route, to Sancreed Beacon, Carn Euny then Caer Bran, and back across the fields to Sancreed Holy Well. A lengthy walk of approx. 4 miles, mostly off track and along bumpy lanes. It may be muddy in places and there are hills! There will be plenty of stops on route so bring a drink and snack. There is a shorter walk in the afternoon for those who want more of an amble than a stroll. Meet 10.30 am at Sancreed Village Hall – return 1.30pm.
Afternoon walk with Cornish folklorist Adrian Rodda
An alternative walk for the curious will be in the environs of Sancreed Parish Church to learn about its history, notable burials, and collection of crosses. If the church is open we shall see the amazing carved screens. Then a short walk to view the holy well and talk about the traditions and superstitions of holy wells in the locality. The more adventurous could extend the walk up to the Beacon for some prehistoric archaeology and a stunning view. Meet 2 pm at Sancreed Village Hall – return 3.30 pm.
Spots on both walks are very limited and booking essential. If you would like to attend either walk please fill in the form below, and in the special requests box let us us know if you are booking the morning walk, afternoon walk, or both (if you are particularly adventurous!)
